On Wednesday night, Orb had the pleasure of attending a canning and preserving workshop put on by Stacey of Tortoise and Hare Slow Foods andTricia and Alicia of The World in a Garden. The idea behind the workshop was to make the most of your summer harvest - don't have a garden? Fear not! Stock up on local produce at a farmer's market and get to it!

Stacey led the group in sterilizing the mason jars, chopping and cooking the ingredients and filling and sealing the jars, all while sharing many helpful tips - passed on to her by Grandma Smith :) By the end of the class we each had a jar of blueberry jam, applesauce and stewed tomatoes - delicious!

Be sure to check out A World in a Garden's site for more wonderful workshops and events.

"Free The Children ambassador Nelly Furtado is passionate about girls’ education. As the subject of a documentary profiling the Kisaruni All Girls Secondary School in Kenya, Nelly saw with her own eyes the invaluable potential that education provides to a girl in a developing country.

Join Nelly Furtado, Free The Children and young people across North America in supporting the education of girls at the Kisaruni School and across East Africa, standing in solidarity through the current drought crisis and into the future. Show that you believe in the power and potential of the world’s girls."
