Last season at Whitewater in Nelson, BC.
Well, it’s snowing at the top of Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, and that’s good enough for me!
I’m Annika. I’m the Technical Outerwear Coordinator at Orb, which basically means I’m all things snow. I can’t promise I’ll blog every time it snows, but I’ll be around all winter to talk about general snow related awesomeness. I'm here in the summer too, I'm just a little quieter :)
Snow on Halloween weekend. Reminds me of being a kid and having to wear my Halloween costume over my snowsuit. Hard to be taken seriously as a cat who’s ready for a blizzard.
Happy Friday, go find some snow to play in!

“We Day is the movement of our time.” Two brothers, Craig and Marc Kielburger started Free the Children when they were still children themselves and now work to inspire young people to be a part of global change. The We Day events are held in several cities throughout the year and young people from many school are invited to attend an inspiring day filled with speakers, live music and education on how they can BE THE CHANGE.
Bright and early on the morning of Thursday, October 13th, the Orb staff (along with over 700 other volunteers!) met at the Rogers Arena to get ready for our We Day experience. It was not even 7am and the energy of the volunteers was amazing! The youth who were volunteering as "Crowd Pumpers" were decked out in tight and bright ensembles and excitedly practiced their We Day dance while the tunes blasted.
The Orb team members were volunteering in several different areas –Youth Registration, Seating, Selling Me to We merchandise, and working with Honoured Guests and their families - all of which were very rewarding.
The lineup of live performers and speakers included: Mikhail Gorbachev, Sean Desman, Mia Farrow, Shaq, Spencer West, Hedley, Down with Webster, Classified, Holly Branson, Michel Chikwanine, Jessi Cruicshank, Jesse Giddings, and Waneek Horn-Miller.
Memorable moments included an inspiring speech by Spencer West when he announced his goal to climb Mt Kilimanjaro with the use of his hands, a silent presentation by former child soldier Michel Chikwanine and the powerful keynote speech by Craig and Marc Kielburger. Shaq’s dance off and performances by musical guest, Hedley were huge hits that really got the crowd (and the volunteers!) on their feet.
The day was unforgettable and we would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Are you interested in volunteering for a We Day? Check out their website for sign up info.

Hey everybody,
Here’s a little update! I actually got injured and have to be in a boot cast for the next month…but that won’t stop me to have fun, let me tell you!
It’s already been 2 months that I am living in Colorado and I love it!! My apartment is at the 15th floor so I can see the mountains. What a nice feeling in the morning to wake up and see them...it always makes me happy.
I had the chances to do a lot of activities since I am here:
I went White Water Rafting in The Cache La Poudre River. It was a lot of fun since it was the last day of the rafting season and everything was tricky and cooooold :P
I also went hiking in Estes Park. It was a long hike but totally worth it. The landscapes were amazing and, as usual in Colorado Mountains, we got caught by a storm in the afternoon!
We also decided to go to the Denver Zoo one day. We felt like kids and it was super fun to see all these animals and some shows with them.
The CIE of my school (Center for International Student) also organized an International Soccer Tournament in which we participated. We decided to represent the Bahamas and tried our best against real soccer players. It was funny to be to represent the Bahamas because that’s where I’ll be during New Year :) (December 27th until January 3rd).
Also, I went horseback riding in Estes Park. It was an amazing trip because we were riding in the mountains and the view was more than awesome. I would do it again any time for the landscapes we saw.
But my favorite favorite favorite thing I did since I am here is my trip to California! It was AWESOME. California is now my paradise. We were staying in West Hollywood and experienced a bit of this awesome city. We went to Huntington Beach one day and to Venice beach the other day. I seriously can’t wait to go back in May and surf everyday all day :)
Snowboarding season will probably start for me November 19th as I’ll go to Arapahoe Basin (please everybody cross your fingers for my foot to be completely heal). I’m also part of the University of Northern Colorado snowboarding club (Northern Colorado Riders) and I am really excited to go out there with everybody.
I hope you guys are having fun too
Love,
Kamie
