Style of the Week - Holiday 2010 Sneak Peak!

Here's something a little special for this week’s “Style of the Week”…hello, Holiday 2010 sneak preview! 

I know, you’re probably thinking, wait a second, Fall has only just begun, let’s not get ahead of ourselves (as a tear is shed for the long lost Summer sun), but we’re just too excited about our Holiday 2010 line to wait.  Let me tell you, it’s a beauty of a collection. Flowing fabrics, eye-catching graphics and trendsetting staples will abound this season. Inspired by the French New Wave (1960’s Paris…le sigh), we’re referencing some of the best trends of the season: boyfriend styles, lace, eco-friendly fabrics and endless layering opportunities, so that every item you wear will have a, how do you say…je ne sais quoi!  And we all need a bit of that around the holidays now don’t we?

So, as you smell the wood smoke in the crisp winter air, watch the first few snowflakes fall and hit your first holiday party, we hope you’ll be wrapped in your favorite new piece, feeling and looking empowered inside and out.

Here’s a rundown of some of our personal faves for Holiday...

L'amour (OH10-1000A) is the go-to top for any winter fling. In our striped cotton/modal fine jersey, this playful piece has a longer, oversized fit with a cute shirt-tail hem that is perfect for layering, whether it’s over leggings with a cozy oversized cardi, or paired with some perfect skinny jeans and your favorite trench.  A little French in the front, with our awesome "L'amour de ta vie" graphic, and a little edgy London style in the back, with the exposed metal zipper detail, this tee is anything but basic.

You’re sure to fall head over heels when you set your eyes on Desirae (OH10-900), our new textured cable-knit boyfriend style cardigan; it's the perfect layering piece for the winter season.  Wear this one with faded boyfriend jeans, cozied up next to a roaring fire and sipping a hot toddy…delish!

And last, but certainly not least, there’s Cascade (OH10-1300), which will surely be your favourite Holiday party dress for the season. Made from Modal Spandex Jersey – one of our Worldwise fabrics – this dress is fun, flirty and oh-so figure flattering, sure to make you the belle of any fete.

New Blogger on the Scene!

That’s right Orb lovers, there’s a new blogger on the scene!  I’m Sammi, the Junior Designer for Orb, and I’ll be keeping you posted on all things design.  From exciting happenings in the department to features on things we’re loving right now that inspire us to live (and design) like we mean it, this is a chance for us on the design team to get a little more up close and personal with our awesome Orb grrrrls!
 
Here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ to get the party started:
 
Pecha Kucha Night Vancouver (pronounced...bear with me, puh-chach-kah...it means chit-chat in Japanese) is an event that takes place every few months at various venues in Vancouver, where a series of presenters give a short slide show presentation on a topic of interest.  The catch: each presenter is only allowed 20 slides, shown  for just 20 seconds each, to give their presentation.  6 minutes and 40 seconds of glory.  The last Pecha Kucha night was all about “Walk the Talk, Green Your City”, looking at the initiative launched by the City of Vancouver and UBC  to make Vancouver the greenest city in the world by the year 2020.  It featured 14 locals from different backgrounds and disciplines talking about sustainability on a local and global scale, sometimes from a creative perspective, sometimes from an urban development perspective.  All of it was awesome and inspiring and made me excited to be a Vancouver-ite.  Check out the link below for the next Pecha Kucha night taking place at the Vogue Theatre on September 30th.

Style of the Week - Transition Time

The sky is turning grey and the air outside is starting to cool. Wait...the air's warming up again and the sun is shining...huh? We seem to be caught in that between-seasons time of year, when it's hard to know what to wear to stay comfortable.

Dry the small raindrops from your face and keep a smile on! This week we bring you two styles that are foolproof for welcoming Fall, no matter what it throws at you.

First, try on the Academy (OF10-1106), a beautifully light-weight pullover. Its relaxed fit gives you plenty of breathing (or stretching!) room for these end-of-summer days, while still providing some snugness on the chillier ones. Our Fall collection is now in full swing and we love every single piece! With so many great ones to choose from, our fashion experts want to help.

Seasonal changes are slowly appearing along the tree-lined streets here in B.C. and we're sure people are feeling Autumn lurking around the corner. For Orb, Fall is our favorite season! The idea of cozy evenings spent wrapped in knitted sweaters, great denim and breezy, flowing tops definitely causes more day-dreaming this time of year than during your average work day. Obviously watching a late-summer sunset beats waiting on a rain-soaked sidewalk in November to get into an already-packed downtown theatre. Just saying. 

So where was I...right, Fall! It's here and the full Orb line is now in stores. There is a LOT to choose from and we are anxious to share our outfit ideas with you before you go into your neighborhood Orb retailer:

Fabulous idea #1 - Inspiration to make the most of this new season:

A Day In the Life...At the Orb Store!
