Interview with Sammi Smith:

Q. How did you first get into fashion and design?

A. It was always an interest growing up. I started selling for a high school fashion show, then went to Ryerson’s fashion program in Toronto. I interned with an upscale women’s designer, then moved to Vancouver 2 and a half years ago.

Q. What attracted you to Orb?

A. After travelling for 6 months, I came back (to Vancouver) and was looking for a company that had a fun, fresh outlook on fashion and I’d heard good things about Orb from people in the industry, so I sent in my resume!

Q. How do you like the job so far?

A. It’s been really great. It’s a really sort of relaxed, creative atmosphere and excellent people.

Q. Tell us a bit about what your job involves, and what you’re looking forward to.

A. I’m the Junior Designer with Orb so I’m assisting the lead designer (Melissa) with development of the Fall 2010 line and seeing it through to production. I’ll have a bit of a hand in everything. The research is great; browsing street-style blogs and magazines and seeing what people are wearing in general. I also enjoyed being at the store and seeing how people like to wear the pieces we create.

Q. What are some of your interests outside of fashion?

A. I’m sort of food and cooking obsessed, so I spend lots of time watching the food network. I’m always good to bake some cookies! Now that its summer I’m excited to get outside and do all the outdoorsy stuff.
